Thanks for sharing these thoughts so clearly - all roads lead to Dreher. What I admire in the weirdness and in RD’s output is that it is not overtly denominational. I am stuck in the RC Church but see the future, optimistically, as one where we have more in common than otherwise, need to stick together and learn one from one another. The RC Church needs to rediscover its own mystic traditions and discard the trappings of its history. We are entering a new era of social and cultural upheaval, which will be challenging for Christians but will also bring us closer to Christ, maybe even making us better Christians.

Dreher and his family relationships being laid bare for public consumption by Dreher has me too wary to trust him.

Great, great article here. It suddenly made me realize that a Marian consecration in the Catholic Church gave me what they found in Orthodoxy. Faith coming alive? It's a faith so dangerous it rocks your world. But you never can go back to the deadness of your previous life. Thanks to Mary, I've been on the path to becoming a serious person.

So I relate to what they're saying. But I never needed to leave Catholicism. That's my story.

Methinks Mr. Dreher’s life in Catholic Hungary with its gorgeous churches and eye candy buildings and culture draws followers of the GOT variety. The costumes are cool…for the present. We’ll see…

Great read. I think dreher is an undoubtedly interesting writer, though as Don notes the way he weaves his family stuff in can sometimes be disconcerting.
