Thanks for sharing these thoughts so clearly - all roads lead to Dreher. What I admire in the weirdness and in RD’s output is that it is not overtly denominational. I am stuck in the RC Church but see the future, optimistically, as one where we have more in common than otherwise, need to stick together and learn one from one another. The RC Church needs to rediscover its own mystic traditions and discard the trappings of its history. We are entering a new era of social and cultural upheaval, which will be challenging for Christians but will also bring us closer to Christ, maybe even making us better Christians.

Great, great article here. It suddenly made me realize that a Marian consecration in the Catholic Church gave me what they found in Orthodoxy. Faith coming alive? It's a faith so dangerous it rocks your world. But you never can go back to the deadness of your previous life. Thanks to Mary, I've been on the path to becoming a serious person.

So I relate to what they're saying. But I never needed to leave Catholicism. That's my story.

Dreher and his family relationships being laid bare for public consumption by Dreher has me too wary to trust him.

I tried Orthodoxy under the Ecumenical Patriatchate. I'm not surprised at all that Russia went to actual war against Ukraine once Constantinople made the Kyiv Patriarchate imto the canonical Orthodox Church of Ukraine. It was better to return to Catholicism in the end with the knowledge that you can't go wrong by sticking with Pope Francis (sorry schismatic trads, you may have valid points here and there but actually going Orthodox would be more logical -- if a Pope could be heretical in 2024 why not 1054?)

Besides that the Eastern traditions are represented (albeit marginalized) in the Eastern Catholic Churches along with my preferred Carmelite spirituality.

We are lacking Holy Fools, however.

Great thoughts! I honestly would be weary of Dreher, though. I know he doxxed a friend about a year ago that was going through some legal problems, and although it was all fabricated it cost the man and his family a lot of social anguish. I really doubt the faith of Dreher and anything about him because of how unnecessarily vindictive he was about that whole thing.

Great read. I think dreher is an undoubtedly interesting writer, though as Don notes the way he weaves his family stuff in can sometimes be disconcerting.
